4-27-2016 fishing report

I went to lake Wahk-Shin-Gah this morning, a 20 acre impoundment in Huntington Reservoir. I have not been to this lake in over 15 years, but since my dad couldn't go fishing on my day off today, I decided to go here by myself. It was all shoreline fishing and the weather conditions were brutal. Temp.-45 degrees, wind-20 mph, and low cloud cover. I fished exclusively with the TWS BULLET bluegill pattern...and the bass couldn't get enough of it! I caught 13 largemouth in the 15"-16" range, lost 8-10 bass, and had dozens and dozens of strikes. Most of the strikes this morning were explosions...with some bass coming halfway out of the water when they hit the lure.
Since last fall, I had often wondered if this lure would do well in the spring...guess I have my answer now! Most bass were caught in 3-5 feet of water, some very close to shore.
Today's good fortune has earned me 13 points in the top sniper contest(although my score doesn't really count). I want all the competitors to know that in one good day of top water can put up some big numbers!!!

Me and Dad spent a couple hours on Big Long lake this morning. The wind was terrible, Dad forgot the fishing net, and the outboard motor wouldn't start. Caught a couple small bass on the BULLET topwater lure and had several strikes and misses...had one explode out of the water about 8 feet from the boat, but he missed the hooks. There is absolutely nothing like top water bass strikes...and in northern Indiana in April!!! Going to be a fun summer!

Went to lakeside pond after work today...embarrassing, but I had a keeper bass hit my lure right at the bank...I didn't have time to set the hook, and he threw it. Going to Big Long lake tomorrow with these new perch pattern BULLETS...hopefully I can put some fish pics up tomorrow...and some slabs in the frying pan!

Logan of OH sent this contest submission yesterday. The weather has finally warmed up in the Midwest, so he decided to hit the lake. This bass was caught on the TWS BULLET frog pattern contest lure. There is nothing else like topwater fishing for bass and pike! My only previous experience with this lure was in October of last year...what this recent submission tells me is that in the Midwest, this topwater lure is effective from mid April to mid November...and that's a good amount of fishing time!
Good job have been awarded 1 point for a largemouth bass in the 1-3 lb. range.

Having some fun with a catch-phrase and watermark app with some TWS BULLET catches from October 2015!

Terry from Orange, TX caught this bass while testing the action of the lure on a small pond. He made the most of his "surprise " catch by making sure to take a pic of the fish and lure, then submitting it to

In other news, Thad from Texas has asked if adding a dressed (feather) to the tail treble hook is within the contest rules.
The answer is...yes, that modification is completely acceptable. If any other competitors have a modification suggestion or question, please email me and I will address that question.

Meanwhile, in the northern division, things are looking better for warming weather...FINALLY!

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Contest lures were shipped out late last week...and Terry from Orange, Texas went to a small pond yesterday to, quote " just check out the action" of the lure and " wound up catching a bass."
Terry's first fish pic submission has earned him 1 point for a largemouth bass in the 1-3 lb. range.
Up here in the Northern division we are being plagued with snow and freezing temps. This is precisely why I decided to create a northern and southern division. When things... get warmer up here, fish activity will heat up and our time will come!
Good job Terry!
This is gonna be fun!
